Christian Education

At Central St. Matthew, we believe that the Christian life must be nurtured through education and study in an environment of affirmation and fellowship. Therefore, in addition to a Sunday School program for all ages, Central St. Matthew offers a full range of opportunities for education and spiritual growth. These include Confirmation Classes for youth and a variety of adult series and Bible studies throughout the year. Also, Central St. Matthew makes available a variety of spiritual retreats and workshops through the UCC South Central Conference.

Vacation Bible School
Central St. Matthew is pleased to offer Vacation Bible School twice each year — in the summer and during Christmas vacation. Our enthusiastic group of teachers and resource persons look forward to an exciting time of learning and exploration with your children. Please watch this website contact the church office for more specific information about Central St. Matthew Vacation Bible School.
Summer 2008 VBS
The Board of Christian Education conducted the summer 2008 Vacation Bible School on August 4-8 from 9 am until noon and a special service celebrating what the children learned was held on August 10th . Children from pre-k through 6th grade attended. The theme for this year’s VBS was “Splish Splash, Bible Bash” and the students explored Bible stories involving water through songs, games, and crafts.
Day one we learned about trusting God the way the people of Israel did when God, through Moses, parted the Red Sea.
On day two we learned that we need to obey God, the leason Jonah learned when he encountered the big fish.
Day three was spent discussing how we can hope in Jesus as he calms storms in our lives just as he calmed the storm when his disciples were fearful.
Days four and five explored Jesus as the living water in the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman and again how we can trust God for all our needs just as God provided water to the Israelites when they were in the desert.
It was a fun-filled and rewarding experience for all our students.

We have worshiped together at 1333 S. Carrollton Avenue since Hurricane Katrina. Our doors are open and God's spirit of hope and new life is alive! Come join us in a loving, caring community of faith as we support one another and work together to rebuild our lives and our city!
