They are scandalized, demonized, put down and sometimes not even given names, but they have their own stories to tell and their own impact on our faith: they are the “Bad Girls of the Bible.” Hear the stories of Miriam, Bathsheba, Mary & Martha, and others in this pairing of scripture and reflections for our annual Women’s Celebration Sunday. This service was arranged by and the reflections led by our Council President, Marie Weatherspoon.

Dillard Concert Choir @ CSM

What a blessing it was to host the Dillard Concert Choir in our sanctuary on Sunday, April 22, 2012. We have been blessed to hear a number of these young people as soloists during our worship services, and we proudly share our Music Director, Dr. Lucian Zidaru, who serves as the accompanist for the Dillard Choir.

Dillard Concert Choir Performance: April 22 @ 2:00pm

Join us for this special performance by the Dillard University Concert Choir in the sanctuary of Central St. Matthew United Church of Christ!

The historic connections between Dillard and the United Church of Christ go back to 1896 with the founding of Straight University (present day Dillard) by the American Missionary Association of the Congregational Church, a predecessor body of the United Church of Christ (UCC).

Through the years, Dillard and Central Congregational Church (founded in 1867 by the same American Missionary Association) strengthened ties with numerous faculty, administrators, students, and alumnae attending worship at Central Congregational.

Today, as Central Congregational has combined with St. Matthew UCC in Carrollton, we look to rekindle these historic ties and honor the legacy of these two great institutions in the New Orleans African American community.
