The historic connections between Dillard and the United Church of Christ go back to 1896 with the founding of Straight University (present day Dillard) by the American Missionary Association of the Congregational Church, a predecessor body of the United Church of Christ (UCC).
Through the years, Dillard and Central Congregational Church (founded in 1867 by the same American Missionary Association) strengthened ties with numerous faculty, administrators, students, and alumnae attending worship at Central Congregational.
Today, as Central Congregational has combined with St. Matthew UCC in Carrollton, we look to rekindle these historic ties and honor the legacy of these two great institutions in the New Orleans African American community.
